The international maritime industry has recognized the use of drug and alcohol testing as a means of minimizing loss due to accidents as a result of substance- abuse by officers and seamen. Compliance with drug testing regulations is mandatory in many areas of the maritime industry.

Dr.Seema B. Gurnani (MD Path) has completed the Certified Professional Collector Trainer Course and the Certified Breath Alcohol Technician Course from U.S.A.,Both courses are based on Department of Transportation Rule 49 CFR Part 40. Principles

India House Path Lab adheres to the principles of drug and alcohol testing based on international guidelines as lain down in:

1) U.S. Department of transportation, Code of fedaral regulations Title 49, Volume I, Part 40:

2) OCIMF guidelines for control of drugs and alcohol on board ship.

3) Guiding principle on drug and alcohol testing procedures for worldwide application in the maritime industry     as laid down by joint ILO/WHO committee on the health of seafarers in Geneva in May 1993.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

lndia House Path Lab's Drug & Alcohol test menu includes Amphetamines, cocaine, metabolite ,Opiates , Benzodiazepine ,THC (Marijuana) metabolite,Barbiturates,Methadone,Methaqualone, Phenyclidine, Propoxyphene and Alcohol or other substances. These test are conducted in our computerized advanced SAMSHA certified laboratories as required by DG Shipping / USCG / OCIMF / Individual company DNA policy.

After dilution and adulteration checks, our samples are tested using:

1. Initial screening tests at specific cut off concentration
2. Confirmation tests as specific cut off concentration on all results.
3. Medical review officer report on all confirmed positive results.

Reports

 It requires an average of 3-5 days to reach the testing lab and 24 hours to test and report the results. We therefore estimate a total time of 5-7 working days.

 If a test result is positive on the screening stage and we must proceed to Verification and MRO Service, we estimate that 5 additional working days will be required.

Serious Marine Incidence
